Has anyone heard of this problem, Please?

Question:

Wow there is someone out there who has ovaries like mine i am 26 and my husband and i, have bben trying to have chiodren for over a year now . My doctor claims i have polycystic ovarian disease or also called Steins leventhal disease either way it is the worst nightmare i have ever gone through not only the thought of not having children , but the side effects from the disease, i used to be a beautiful person to look at on the outside , but now i basically look like a fat hairy blob who is always hormonally out of wak. Thank gopd my husband totally stands by my side. I am going in for surgery that has only been done once before that i have ever heard of, my dr is going to laproscopic surfery on my ovaries, with a laser he is going to poke holes all over them till they look like swiss cheese, he has had really good results with thison another patient who was a little worse than i, but if this fails me i dont know what to do . Any ways enough about me, how are you doing ? Did  you adopt? or are you interested? I would love to hear fromn you Sincerly Wendy Gamber Snell

THis technique is rather common. The surgery that you will be having is only a temporary fix. It may allow you several fertile cycles before the ovary once again regenerates new tissue and becomes cystic again. You are right that this disease can have terrible psychological as well as physical effects. Good luck on your treatment. — Kimball O. Response:

I had a total hysterectomy the end of Nov. 95.  We had been trying for 5 years.  After my surgery my doctor commented that he had not seen overies like mine.  We knew that I’d had many many many cysts over the years, but he said that my overies looked like they had never actually matured.  He felt that after examing them that I probably would never have produced an egg.  I have never had "regular periods" and the amount of andogens(male hormones) that my ovaries have produced has increased over the years.  I had my share of horror stories about infertility as well as period stories.  Ever had a HEAVY period for 6 months?  It’s not fun.  Or going through doctor after doctor claiming to be infertility specialists, just to be told you needed exploritory surgery or to loose weight and you’d get pregnant.  All of the people who thought they were being kind when they comforted you with the phrase: "If God wants you to have a baby you will."  Or, "Just relax and it will happen."  Or having your mother tell you that you should consider yourself lucky for never having to have children. I think I got off the subject a bit!  Sorry, but I haven’t had a place to vent this way.  I’ve been reading this Group for about two weeks since we got back up on the net.  I feel for anyone who is going through it. In some ways I’m glad it’s over with.  Now that everything is out I don’t have to keep wondering if we should try one more time.  I think that’s one of the worse things that you keep putting yourself through. Should we try this once more?  When do you give up.  Well it’s over now. Hopefully someone will get through my long windedness and e-mail. Thanks for all your time. Michelle Barton
