Donnatol side effects

Question:

My IBS is a lot better since I switched from Wellbutrin to Zoloft/desipramine for the depression and from Levsin to Donnatol for the pain.  Most days I have little or no pain, and spasms are becoming rarer, even though I’m eating a wider variety of foods. I’d been taking the Donnatol (belladonna/phenobarbitol) three times a day, but am now down to twice a day.   This is wonderful, but the Donnatol makes my mouth incredibly dry (the desipramine has that effect, too, but the Donnatol seems to be even stronger) and I’m wondering if it might be having similar effects on some other regions.   *** Gynecological Ick Warning ***   I wonder if the Donnatol is altering my vaginal secretions.  I’m having my second yeast infection in two months, and I keep getting bleeding after sex.  Very annoying.   Of course, I also have PCOS, but I’ve had that for years and never had this frequency of yeast infections or midcycle bleeding due to abrasion.  I don’t think my hormones are further out of whack than usual — rather less so, probably, since I’m near the weight at which PCOS has reversed for me in the past (thanks to the thrilling diet of rice, sweet potatoes, and chicken that I was on during the worst of the IBS.)   Has anyone else had anything like this? — Dawn Friedman     * ‘They die like flies!’ screamed Fu Manchu, with a sudden * had long suspected: that the magnificent, perverted brain was the brain * of a homicidal maniac — though Smith would never accept the theory.

Sorry.  Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, something of a misnomer. A bunch of different features, the basic idea being that your body stays in the first half of the menstrual cycle but never quite ripens an egg or ovulates.  This means your body produces estrogen, which often gets turned into androgens, but not enough progesterone.   There’s a newsgroup for the disorder now, and several people have noted that they also have IBS, but of course I can’t tell whether there’s a statistical correlation.  (A lot of people have some IBS.)  Given the IBS some women get with their periods, it wouldn’t surprise me. —
