Question:
What were your symptoms of POS?? I think I definitely have it, however I am not an MD. I did some research on the computer the other day, I felt like I had a major breakthrough….actually someone in this group first brought it to my attention…….I would be interested to hear more about your story….thanks

Kristi, It’s so good to have you with us. I think it’s really great that your dh is doing this with you. Why should you be scared when you have already FELT the things that this woe can give you. Don’t get discouraged. You’re one courageous woman starting this at your TOM, my husband would have went to stay with his sister if I had done that…LOL. Anyway, best wishes to you and your husband both. Set those goals, and you will reach them. Drinking from my saucer ’cause my cup has overflowed c[_] 248/229/?

Thanks for all of your encouragement. I’m sure that I will need to ask lots of questions. Against my better judgement, I did weigh myself and was pretty bummed to see the facts. ugh… I have gained a total of 80 pounds in just three years… after maintaining the same weight for many years. I need to use the info as encouragement though – not discouragement. As for my DH, he *is* a gem. He’s doing very well with the changes… We had one of those funny eating out experiences this past week too. And I Quote: "I’ll have the eggs and sausage, but no hashborwns." "Would you like rice instead?" " No" "How about pancakes?" "No thank you"… " I could bring you a muffin." "No thank you… no starchy foods at all. Thanks for asking though." "You’re welcome… what kind of toast would you like?" ; ) true induction! ~kristi

| | The springboard into actually committing myself to this change of lifestyle was that I was | recently diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (definitely not a good thing), which | is linked directly to hyperinsulinemia. They are now treating PCOS by treating the | Insulin Resistance… | and besides meds, Lowcarbing is the recommended diet. | | Yikes! Hope the diet change helps! | | I haven’t had the courage to weigh myself yet, but we are going to buy a good scale | tomorrow. In the meantime, I set my goals in terms of "goal clothes" that I want to fit | into again (as a first goal)… and a size range I want to hit later on. | | I read somewhere (Protein Power, I think) that we shouldn’t obsess too much about the scale, | because our bodies naturally fluctuate in weight as we retain and lose water. If we’re | excercising and adding muscle mass, our weight loss might seem deceptively slow or even in | reverse! Your overall trend will probably be to lose weight, but don’t let day-to-day | fluctuation alarm you too much. Your "goal clothes" will be a better gauge of progress, I | think. | | I have a lot of reasons to dig in and make this my new way of life… but I think I am | really scared deep down inside that I won’t see any real changes. More scared of what I | will be like if I don’t try… | | Your PCOS gives you one more reason to try than most people have. If it helps with that, isn’t | it worth doing? Be nice to yourself — you can do it! | | — Mongo | |

I have been back and forth checking into this newsgroup for the past year… so I know that lots of you are long time LC-ers… and very knowledgeable. I’ve read Atkins (DANDR and Vitanutrient solution) and PP… plus done a lot of reading on the web… which has helped me come to the conclusion that I truly need to give this WOL an honest try. As of now, My dh and I have been on induction for 5 days and are both feeling excellent! I am not in ketosis yet (I slipped minorly… TOM) – but I expect to be within the next couple of days. HI! Good luck to you both. I would not buy a scale- more trouble than it’s worth. Watch your clothes, as you say you will- that’s significant. And feel good! it’s important not to starve yourself- be sure to eat enough protein. Bob Burns PP since 10/23/99 38+/38/34 (waist) Mill Hall, PA

I would not say it’s against your better judgement. Always best to face facts no matter how unpalatable. Now at least you have a starting point.
