Female Problems….Please Help!!

Question:

Having problems myself.   Missed one month completely.  (not pregnant)!! Had normal, but heavier the next month.  Then the month after that had period  1 week early, then off for 2 days then my normal week period. Very strange, but I figure it’s the diet,  Nothing else has changed Kerri 225/177/165 since 1/4/99

Response:

I just posted a similar message.  I just finished induction, and have my period two weeks early (I’m always on time, so it’s really wierd).  I also gained three lbs – hoping that will leave with the extra peroid.

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I don’t have any advice exactly, but can this be a Atkins thing?  I noticed myself spotting earlier this week (I NEVER spot), but I attributed it to my recent breakup and being less percise with my pills. hmmm, is this Atkins or me? It is you and Atkins.  As your body adjusts to this new WOL, it will play with your cycle–YMMV, but my cycle was screwy for a few months. If I remember correctly, it is the effect of ketones (new fuel) vs. glycogen (fuel your body is used to).  I think the FAQ addresses this issue, too.

Not much to do with ketones.  It has to do with insulins effects on other hormones.  One effect of insulin is to increase testosterone production, probably part of the reason why the CKD diet helps weight lifters put on muscle mass. Carbs = increased insulin secretion insulin effects ovary function, just ask all the women with polycystic ovary syndrome.  A lot of women with this syndrome may only have periods a couple of times a year, but many find that they have them more often once they control insulin secretion through low-carbing and/or insulin sensitivity through such diabetic drugs as metformin and rezulin. fefe looking to leave the third rung behind 169/151/137  (1.25.99) Share what you know. I have a friend that started about 2 weeks ago. This question is for her…..for real! Anyway, she is on low carb and THE PILL. For some reason she is having problems. She is not due for her period for a week and all this week she has been experiencing a different color discharge. I am not all that experienced with this diet myself. There is nothing in the book about this. She doesn’t really want to go to a doc unless she has to. I told her this would be the best place for me to find any info . If anyone has any answers or ideas. You might feel a little more comfortable just e-mailing me directly at "Galreinbo". Any responses would be appreciated. And this is really for a freind of mine…I know what you guys are thinking!! LOL Thanks again for any responses!!! Dor from NJ

Girls, Girls…Girls… *chuckling softly* Your body is undergoing a new stress…and if you’ve lost any pounds…fat by the way stores estrogen…your periods are bound to be different. If the friend isn’t in any pain and the odor isn’t unusual…more than usual…I’d say wait and see what happens..if she’s unsure….check with the GYN…a friendly chat with the nurse on the phone will probably set it right. Spotting in and of itself is probably nothing to worry about – but since she is on The Pill, her period should ALWAYS come at the same time — a day or two after she takes her last one.   This should NOT change…  I would DEFINITELY recommend she see her doctor. -Beth – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hi, I have been on Atkins for a while. Hope, I think there’s a good chance that it is the change in your routine w/the pills.  Back when I was on the pill, if I messed up enough to cause spotting, the doc said I was no longer "safe" because it meant my hormone levels had been interrupted, or whatever.  So, if you make up with your boyfiend, BE CAREFUL!!!!  Pregnancy can seriously interfere w/a weight loss program. <vbg Share what you know. About the only "downside" to this WOE, for me anyway.  Period is heavier and lasts and day or two longer and comes a day or two sooner.  The good side effects outweigh the bad though (except for that 1 day a month where life is just totally miserable!) I am exactly the opposite of an expert on this matter. I will say my wife’s cycles did loop de loops the first two months. All is fine now though. — Low Carb: 1/6/99 365/335/265 (Confirmed Meatatarian)
