New Drug for PCO?
Question:
Hi, I just happen to stumble across this article online yesterday. It’s about a new investigational drug used to treat PCO. Anyone have any additional information on this drug? It’s called D-chiro-inositol. http://news.lycos.com/stories/Health/19990428RTHEALTH-PO10.asp Chele

<<new investigational drug used to treat PCO. Anyone have any additional information on this drug? It’s called D-chiro-inositol. Yes, the study was published in yesterday’s issue of the New England Journal of Medicine. (Dr. Nestler again….the one who did the initial insulin resistance/metformin stuff). The abstract states: "Women with the polycystic ovary syndrome have insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia, possibly because of a deficiency of a d-chiro-inositol-containing phosphoglycan that mediates the action of insulin. We hypothesized that the administration of d-chiro-inositol (DCI) would replenish stores of the mediator and improve insulin sensitivity." …..their published study supports their hypothesis. The URL to the actual abstract is: http://www.nejm.org/content/1999/0340/0017/1314.asp
