<<i just had my 3rd failed ivf,   my hair is totally falling out and  im getting so much hair growing on my chin!!! all these meds i guess, has anyone else been seeing any of these symptoms? Gosh, I’m sorry. Do you have PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome)?  That can cause male pattern hair loss (on head) and growth (face, chest, etc).

Response:

Abby: I’m so sorry about your IVF.  I don’t know about the reaaction to meds-I’ve just had my 3rd IUI and the only reaaciton I seem to have is an increased emotional trigger to everything!!! I will be thinking of you, and hoping that your next IVF is the one!   -Jill

Yes, I did lose a ton of hair over the 2 years of IVF’s, and yes, I did have some extra facial hair…and I don’t have PCO’s…I attribute it to the meds and hormonal fluctuations. If you take a prenatal vitamin, you may have some success getting your HEAD hair to regrow a bit faster. (People always say  "you have the best hair when you’re pregnant," but they always follow that with "…but it’s because of the prenatals"…so it’s worth a try…) No, I wasn’t on prenatals during the IVF cycles…so I have no clue if it works, or if I could have prevented this hair loss….or if it was just me, getting old. — Trisha93, ttc 6+ yrs IUIs,IVFs,FETs, 3m/c

<<People always say  "you have the best hair when you’re pregnant," but they always follow that with "…but it’s because of the prenatals"… (I am only addressing the pregnancy-hair comment) Having good hair during pg is because during pregnancy, you typically *stop* shedding your hair.  You get a very full head of it, typically.  Then after delivery, whatever didn’t fall out, falls out at once….and then, you can look pretty pathetic. I don’t think it has anything to do with vitamins (unless your hair is very short), as that would only affect whatever new hair you grow, during the pregnancy.  The rest of your hair is dead.   However, during pregnancy, your hair can get darn greasy, which may add some "shine"…lol. -K
