what is IR and how is it treated??
Question:
My sister has PCOS and had her left ovary removed in July due to many large cysts and damage done to the ovary. She just found out that she has approximately 10 small cysts on her remaining ovary. They are considering birth control pills right now. She has tried Clomid to conceive, which has not been successful. During some searching on the internet, I have come across something called Insulin Resistance. I asked our OB/GYN about it, and he didn’t seem to know anything about it. Is there anyone that can give me information on what it is or what treatment might be available for IR or PCOS, or point me in the direction of some good web sites? I talk again with the doctor’s office on Thursday and the nurse said they would like some more information on IR, if I can find it. Thanks in advance for your time if you are able to help me with this. Private email or cc to private email is best as I don’t get to check this newsgroup on a regular basis for my sister. THANKS! Hi Tracey, Here are a few websites to check out: The Insulin Resistance Information Page http://commodore.perry.pps.pgh.pa.us/~odonnell/ir1.html Dr. Mark Perloe www.ivf.com INCIID www.inciid.org PCO Support www.pcosupport.org Doing a web search under "insulin resistance" or "polycystic ovary syndrome" will yield a lot more info.
